Project -
Arborlake Center, Deerfield, Illinois
Architect - Skidmore Owings & Merrill
Contractor - W.E. O'Neil Construction Co.

Arborlake is one of Precast Concrete Specialties' latest projects that
uses a combination of architectural precast concrete finishes, granite clad window units
and spandrel panels for the exterior skin of the building. The complex is located in
Deerfield, Illinois just off the Tri-state tollway on the north side of Chicago.
The building, a six story complex, is in the new office campus
style. The first level features polished and flame cut rusty-red granite, quarried and
shipped from Sweden and cast into precast panels at our plant, to give you the beauty of
granite with the strength and flexibility of a precast wall. The middle floors are
architectural precast with a light sandblasted finish using limestone chips, buff colored
cement, and trimmed with small pieces of granite. The sixth floor again uses red granite
to form a crown and accent the top of the building.

Arborlake exterior skin is made up of 556 pieces of precast that took
approximately 7 months to produce. There are approximately 69,000 square feet of precast
panels with 9,500 square feet of granite cast in them. Another feature, the window zipper
gaskets, were also cast into the panels. This allowed the windows to be installed and
caulked in our plant before shipping. The windows were 1" thermopane glass, tinted
bronze, with the average size of 6'6" x 7'10".
Weighing 3,700,000 pounds, it took approximately 95 truck loads to
deliver and 60 working days to erect. |
